Morecambe – Christie Park

Christie Park has a capacity of 6,400 with seating for 1,200. It is the home ground of Morecambe FC.

It comprises 3 covered stands and one uncovered stand. The only seated stand (the Main Stand) runs along about half the length of the pitch on one side, straddling the halfway line. The main terraced end (the North Stand) is situated behind one of the goals, and houses the majority of the home fans.

This impressive structure is the most recent addition to the ground, having been opened in 1997. The other covered stand (the Umbro Stand) is opposite the North Stand and houses the away fans. The capacity in this stand can be increased using temporary terracing. The uncovered stand (the Carwash Terrace), takes its name from the Carwash directly behind it on Lancaster Road.

The supporters’ club building that used to be behind it was knocked down in late 2006 and the club have planning permission to build a new stand on its site. However, Morecambe announced, in January 2009, that they have sold Christie Park to Sainsburys, allowing the club to commence the building of a new 7,000 capacity stadium in the Westgate area of the town.

The anticipated date for the opening of the new ground is the start of the 2010-11 season.

What have other Away Fans said about their trip?fans

Most visiting fans appear to consider a trip to Christie Park a pleasant, relaxing day out. The covered ends contribute to a good atmosphere with the ground. However, the view of the action from the limited seating available in the Main stand is impeded by supporting pillars at the front. Visitors report that the mobile refreshment units at the front of the main stand serve good quality burgers, pies and hot and cold drinks. Atkinson’s Christie Park Fish and Chips, in Lancaster Road, has also been highly recommended by several fans.
