Chesterfield – PROACT Stadium

From the 2010-11 season, Chesterfield FC took up residency at their new 10,500 capacity, all-seater B2net Stadium in Whittington Moor, on the site of the former Dema Glassworks. Designed by architects Ward McHugh Associates of Sheffield, the £13 million stadium will replace the Saltergate Recreation Ground, which had been Chesterfield’s home ground since 1884.

The PROACT Stadium comprises 4 stands. The Main Stand at the western side of the ground is sponsored by HTM Products (Derbyshire) Ltd. and will be known as the HTM Stand. This stand includes conference / banqueting rooms, one of which bears the name, “Leengate” Legends Lounge. The club have secured a lucrative, 5-year deal with Leengate Valves for sponsorship of the Legends lounge at the B2net, together with continued first team sponsorship.

National Lottery winner, Karen Child, who has sponsored the Spireites Kop at Saltergate for the last two seasons, has now signed a long-term deal to sponsor the South Stand for home supporters at the PROACT Stadium, to be known as the “Karen Child” Stand. According to the Chesterfield FC website, she said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my period of sponsorship at Saltergate so had no hesitation in wanting to continue the connection with my local football club at the new PROACT Stadium.”

The East “Community” Stand, sponsored by Midlands Co-operative, includes a multi-purpose sports room, injury clinic, gymnasium, rehabilitation wave pool, classroom resource centre for local education, a soft play area and a cafeteria. The official opening fixture was a friendly against local rivals Derby County on 24th July 2010.

Several visiting fans have recommended the Rutland Arms (nor renamed as simply “The Rutland” in Stephenson Place in the centre of the town. Listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, this pub is ideal for rail travellers. Away supporters arriving by train simply need to head towards the town centre and the Rutland Arms is next to the large church with the crooked spire. The Rutland, a very old pub, has been operated as a traditional alehouse with a vast range of well-kept real ales.

The pub is also renowned for serving excellent food. Both home and away fans can be assured of a friendly welcome. Apparently, in good weather, punters have been known to spill over into the nearby churchyard.
